He started single-seater racing with the same determination he had developed throughout his karting days.
Hamilton feared he would not cope with such an upgrade in horsepower.
His early racing career began properly in 2002 with Manor Motorsport in the 2002 Formula Renault UK. After he won, he was named as the Rising Star Member by the British Racing Drivers Club.
Hamilton became the European Champion in 2000. His father supported his racing career by working several jobs. At this point, McLaren’s financial support became a bigger blessing for Hamilton. The contract that he signed had an option for being a future Formula One racer. In 1998, after Hamilton won the Super Series and the British Championship for the second time, McLaren called him and signed him to the McLaren driver development program. Hamilton also became the youngest-ever winner of the British Cadet Kart championship with less than two years of experience. Hamilton expressed his desire to drive one of McLaren’s cars, and Dennis responded that he should call him in 9 years. At the age of 10, Hamilton met Ron Dennis and requested his autograph. As soon as he entered national events, he won every race he competed in. Hamilton credits much of his success to his humble upbringing in Stevenage. However, his passion for racing was remarkable. Apart from racing, Hamilton became interested in association football and cricket in school. His father showed his support as long as Hamilton did well at school. This was the point when he became more interested in pursuing racing. He used the radio-controlled car in the British Radio Car Association Championship, where he placed second. In 1991, Lewis Hamilton received a radio-controlled car and a go-kart from his father. He took up karate lessons to able to defend himself from bullies. At the age of five, he experienced bullying. He moved and lived with his mother and half-sisters. At the age of two, Lewis’ parents separated. 
Lewis Hamilton’s grandparents emigrated from Grenada to the United Kingdom in the 1950s. His parents are Carmen Larbalestier and Anthony Hamilton.
